Skipton occurs as town in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. An open-air market is held four times the week on the main street (Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday). It lies along a River Aire and Leeds and Liverpool Canal. A town shibboleth is "Gateway to the Dales" (meaning a Yorkshire Dales). Skipton is twinned with the Bavarian town of Simbach am Inn. Skipton is a personal of one of the better preserved medieval castles in England dating back to the 12th century.
Too as a comprehensive secondary school, there are two lone-sex selective grammar schools.
Skipton is on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle railway. There are regular services to Leeds & Bradford. Nearby towns & villages include Bradley, Kildwick, Stirton, Carleton, Gargrave, Embsay, Cononley and Farnhill. A northerly division (A65 & A59) of the £16.4m Skipton Bypass opened in December 1981. A rest of the half a dozen-mile bypass (A629) opened within October 1982, to great deal reduction in journeying days to the Dales.
